Dr. Mahakian specializes in working with older adults and older adults with
cognitive decline. For over 10 years, Dr. Mahakian served as Director of the
Elder Care Referral Program for the University of California San Francisco. She
has a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and received her clinical training
at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Centers in San Francisco and Martinez,
California. Dr. Mahakian is also licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist (lic#
MFT30045). Her professional experience and expertise assisting university
employees with an aging parent or relative is now available to the community at
large.
Quality of care and service are an integral part of Aging Matters, Inc. In light
of this, Dr. Mahakian and her staff maintain a small caseload of older adults,
assuring personalized care and attention to detail. All work is performed under
the direct supervision of Dr. Jane L. Mahakian, this assuring continuity and
quality of all services performed.
Our basic principal is to promote the emotional well-being of the older person
by validating the person and involving him or her in decision-making as long as
possible. It is vital to promote the person’s self-esteem and sense of
independence throughout all stages of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of
dementias.
